The reader is told that she lost her family in a bombing raid in the war. Another theme is war but this time the one with the shell-shocked syndrome is not a veteran, but a girl: the vampire. She rapresents the dominant femme fatale with seductive lethal power, the bloodthirsty vampire who seduces men and then kills them.
The girl is an enigma, she says very little and allows the man to think whetever the likes. By the end of the story the reader realizes she’s a serial killer. She asks him to wake her before they get to the cemetery. He follows her on to a late-night bus and sits with her. It is narrated by a young nameless man living in London, a war veteran, who one night goes to the cinema and is powerfully attracted to the usherette. The protagonist love interest is a femme fatale, a vampire… But this isn’t a ghost story and has no supernatural overtones about it, rather it’s a dark tale of revenge. One of the main themes is female erotic power. So, about Kiss me again stranger… The Short story was first pulished in 1952, in her collection The Apple Tree.
Her works often have sinister overtones and paranormal elements, making her one of the greatest exponent of Gothic literature in the twentieth century. Her narrative production focuses on the exploration of the worries and the anxieties of modernity.
